Musculoskeletal health care in Blacktown

Chiropractic is often linked with backs, but our clinic also assesses and treats other parts of the musculoskeletal system. If a shoulder, hip, knee or wrist is holding you back, this is how we approach it.

How we assess and manage musculoskeletal problems

Your musculoskeletal system includes your bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments and the connective tissue around them. Problems can come from injury, repetitive strain, changes in activity or simply wear over time.

At Western Chiropractic, we see people with shoulder and hand pain, hip and knee pain, elbow, wrist, ankle and foot problems, jaw issues and whiplash injuries alongside spinal complaints.

Joint pain

Shoulders, hips, knees, hands and feet: how we assess joint pain and what care may help.

Joint pain can creep up slowly or arrive after an injury. Our clinic assesses and treats joints beyond the spine, including shoulders, hands, hips, knees, ankles and feet, and will tell you honestly when another option is more appropriate.

Muscle pain and strains

Strains, tight spots and soft tissue pain: localised muscle problems and how recovery is guided.

A pulled hamstring, a knot between the shoulder blades, a calf that tightens every time you run: muscle pain is often localised and linked to a specific activity. This page covers how we assess and treat soft tissue problems like these.

Neck pain and whiplash

Stiff, sore or painful necks (including after whiplash), with careful assessment and gentle options.

A stiff or sore neck can make driving, working at a screen and sleeping feel like hard work. Neck pain is common and usually settles, but an assessment can help when it lingers, keeps returning or follows an injury.

Pain linked to your work

Many Blacktown locals work in trades, warehousing, healthcare, retail or long desk shifts. Each brings different physical demands. We take your job into account so advice is practical, from lifting strategies to desk set-up and recovery between shifts.

Your care, step by step

Stage 1 of 4

What your first visit for a joint or muscle problem looks like

Wear clothing that lets us see and move the affected area, such as shorts for a knee or a singlet for a shoulder. Bring any scan reports and a list of what you have already tried. Your chiropractor will compare the painful side with the other side, test strength and movement, and explain whether chiropractic care, another practitioner, or a combination is the most sensible path.

Stage 2 of 4

How we assess beyond the spine

A sore knee can be influenced by how your hip and ankle move. Shoulder pain can relate to the upper back and neck. That is why we examine the painful area and the regions around it, along with strength, range of motion and how you perform everyday tasks.

What else we ask about

Your chiropractor will also ask about work, training, sleep and previous injuries, because these shape both the cause and a realistic plan.

Care options for joints and soft tissue

Depending on what we find, care may include:

  • Joint mobilisation and the Mulligan technique for restricted joints in the limbs
  • Soft tissue techniques such as Active Release Technique and IASTM
  • Dry needling for suitable muscle-related pain
  • Rock tape kinesiology taping or rigid sports taping for support
  • A graded exercise program to rebuild strength, control and tolerance

Building a plan that fits your life

We aim for plans you can actually follow. That means choosing exercises that fit your schedule, explaining why each step matters and setting check-in points to review progress. As things improve, the focus shifts from hands-on care towards keeping you independent.

When other practitioners are involved

Some conditions need input from your GP, a physiotherapist, a podiatrist or a specialist. Where that is the case, we will say so and can help with the next step.

Common questions

Musculoskeletal health: your questions

Yes. Our clinic assesses and treats other musculoskeletal areas as well as the spine, including shoulders, hands, hips, knees, ankles and feet, where care is appropriate.

Not usually. Most problems can be assessed clinically. If your chiropractor thinks imaging would change your management, they will explain why and how to arrange it.

There is some overlap in techniques and exercise. Chiropractors bring particular training in joint manipulation and spinal assessment. The right choice depends on your problem and preferences.
